A Belanger shower faucet has a small cartridge that sits inside of the handle. This cartridge uses valves to control the flow of hot and cold water from the water pipes. If your faucet leaks or does not perform up to previous standards, replacing this cartridge is your best option for success. The cartridge itself cannot be repaired, so a complete replacement is the most efficient repair method. It requires just a few basic skills.
Instructions
1. Turn off the water supply by shutting the valves on the water pipes in the shower wall. Or turn off the home's main water line.
2. Remove the cap from the top of the faucet handle by lifting it out and unscrewing the set screw in the middle of the handle beneath it.
3. Remove the adapter by sliding it out and unscrewing the bonnet cap, which is a dome-shaped washer, with a pair of pliers.
4. Remove the trim piece, which is the round circular plate on the shower wall by unscrewing the two screws at the base with a screwdriver and pulling it off.
5. Take off the trim sleeve which fits around the base of the faucet and remove the cartridge and seals from inside the faucet head. Replace the cartridge and seals inside the faucet head. The seals must go over the two inlet holes in the faucet head.
6. Replace the trim sleeve, the round trim piece, bonnet and handle to reassemble the Belanger faucet.
