Keyless entry remotes are standard with many cars sold today. The remote is a small battery-powered device that hangs on a key chain enabling the user to unlock or lock the car doors and trunk; some even come with a panic button. Occasionally, it is necessary to reprogram the remote. A replaced remote or a battery change will generally require a reprogram, but a costly trip to the auto dealer is not necessary. The steps to follow are standard for most Toyota models and are easy enough for any do-it-yourself person to follow.
Instructions
1. Sit in the driver's seat with the door open and unlocked. Keep all other doors closed.
2. Insert the key into the ignition, then pull it out without turning it two times within five seconds.
3. Close, then open the driver's door two times. Insert the key into the ignition, and pull it out without turning it within 40 seconds.
4. Close then open the driver's door two times, then insert the key into the ignition, but do not pull it out. Close the driver's door, turn the ignition to the On position then Off position without starting the car. Remove the key. These steps need to be completed within 40 seconds. The power locks should lock then unlock within three seconds. If they do not, repeat the steps again before continuing.
5. Press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the remote for one-and-a-half seconds. Release, then press and hold the lock button for two seconds. The door locks should lock, then unlock once within three seconds, indicating the programming was successful. Repeat this step only if the door locks and unlocks twice.
6. Repeat Step 5 only to reprogram another remote.
