Basketball Spirit Poster Ideas

Basketball season brings opportunities to rally players, students and teachers.

Whether you want to increase excitement for an upcoming basketball game or bolster team spirit during a game, posters can rally the crowd. Design team spirit posters with materials such as colorful poster boards, decorative paper, vibrant acrylic paints, markers and eye-catching embellishments. Ensure the signs comply with school content regulations before hanging them on school buildings and in the gymnasium for pep rallies and games. Be sure not to write or paint anything offensive to the other team. Be supportive of your team--not mean to the other team.

Promote Upcoming Games

Use basketball spirit posters to pack more students into the stands during games. Create signs that list dates and times for upcoming games. Provide driving directions for away games so students can easily find other school campuses. For each game, also let students know what to wear or what to bring to show school spirit, such as shirts in school colors, pom-poms or plastic megaphones to shout school cheers along with the cheerleaders.

Spotlight Basketball Team Members

Increase team spirit with signs that showcase different members of the team. In addition to the basic player statistics and a team photo, include candid photos taken around campus or action shots snapped during games. Include lighthearted personal information on the poster, such as the player's favorite movies, foods, teachers, bands, songs, subjects, books and hobbies outside of basketball.

Outline Cheers

Hang team spirit posters in the gym during home games or have cheerleaders hold smaller signs during away games that present the words to popular cheers. Teaching the crowd the words to the chants will encourage school unity and increase audience participation. Use vibrant colors and a large block font to write the signs so the words will be easy to read from the stands.

Boost School Spirit

Design basketball spirit posters that will not only generate support for the basketball team but also increase school spirit overall. For example, list dates and times for pep rallies or information on upcoming sales of school logo shirts, ribbons or temporary tattoos. You can also create posters that salute school cheerleaders and the mascot. Provide details for spirit week activities, such as dress-up days or lunch contests leading up to the basketball season or important playoff games.

Salute the Fans

Pay tribute to students who routinely show team spirit at games with basketball posters that showcase them. Include pictures taken in the stands during games or shots of students decked out in school colors and accessories. Posters can also honor coaches, along with teachers and parents who serve as supervisors and boosters for the basketball team.
