Moen faucets each have a handle. Whether it is a single-handle shower faucet or a kitchen faucet with two handles, all are attached to the faucet in the same way. If you need to replace a faucet cartridge or want to remove your faucet, taking off the handle is the first step. This is necessary in any repair made to Moen faucets and can easily be done in a few simple steps.
Instructions
1. Turn off the home's water supply by closing the water line in your basement next to the water heater. If this is a kitchen or bathroom faucet mounted to the sink, simply close the two water valves under the sink behind the cabinet doors. This stops water flow to the faucet and prevents it from gushing out when you remove the handle.
2. Unscrew the set screw, the small screw mounted on the top of round handles, and along the base of the lever and single-handle shower faucet handles. Insert an Allen wrench into the screw's head and turn counterclockwise to remove it. Unthread and remove the handle screw completely.
3. Pull on the handle to slide it away from the faucet. It is attached to the cartridge stem, a rod on top of the faucet, and will slide off with gentle pressure. Attach a handle puller to the back of the handle and turn the center post, the rod in the middle of the handle puller, if the handle does not come off.
4. Remove the retaining nut under the handle. Then remove the cartridge by pulling it out of the handle base in order to get inside of the faucet handle base. Replace the cartridge if it is broken and rebuild the faucet to repair leaks and performance problems.
