I live in Chicagoland area ( Joliet). I got one quote to do 140' plus a gate of cedar fencing. cost roughly $3500! that is $25 a linear ft. Is this the going rate??? My choices were either cedar or shadow box which would have costed $3800
Thanks
Jim
In my part of Tx. it is going for $18 to $20, and that's pine boards.
I just figured with this economy the price would be less. I guess I will be doing it myself!

Hello Jim,
Your pricing is in line. Actually it is a pretty good price. Spring is a good time to buy. All the companies are fighting for the work. Later in the summer they will get booked up and pay more. You can also check with Mater Halco (fence distributor)at Master Halco, Inc. - Chain-Link, Vinyl (PVC), Wood, and Ornamental Fence and Fencing. They have a Chicago Branch. I hope that it helps.

That's a pretty fair price for a contractor installed fence. The economy doesn't have a whole lot to do with it. Material costs what material costs, and none of the suppliers are giving it away. Labor costs what it does, and the cost of worker's comp. and liability insurance certainly haven't gone down just because the contractors are slow. Overhead hasn't gone down. That only leave profit to cut, and that's a VERY small part of the equation.
You could do it yourself. Rent an ez auger and drill the holes, buy rough cut plained both sides 1 x 6 x 12' pine boards and cut them in half, cut dog ears on them. This is what I did. I also put up the shadowbox type. Took all summer working on it here and there but looks good. I did 315' for fencing and 35+ holes. The total cost of stringers, posts, gate hardware, and the rough cut wood it cost less than 1100. Oh yeah 3 cases of beer to, to my friend that helped me once and a while! HA HA Beer 4U2
Here is a pic, sorry I have yet to take a finished product pic but this was last May.
I got 2 more quotes. $2755 and $ 2400 same stuff. Both installed, cedar 6' , 3 yr warranty. Now I need to pull my corner posts ( chainlink posts in cement)
Any suggestions?
Do you have to put the new corner posts exactly where the current ones are? If so, dig around the outside of the concrete a good 6 inches, once you get far enough just start wiggling it. You may need a lawn tractor or 4 wheeler to get those puppies out.
Good luck and I am sure it will look great when done. Post pics if you can!!
