You can make a tonneau cover of your own.
A tonneau cover sits on the bed of a truck and protects it from the weather. It is also a good way to secure belongings that need to be carried in the bed of the truck. Custom tonneau covers can be purchased in a variety of styles, but can be expensive. To save money you can make a tonneau cover of your own.
Instructions
1. Measure the width and length of your truck bed and cut out a frame from the 2-inch by 4-inch by 8-foot boards. You should have two pieces for each side of the length of your bed and one piece that is cut to the width of your bed. Notch the wood piece for the width of your bed to fit securely on top of the frame on both sides. Bolt the frame pieces into place using the hex bolts and washers.
2. Lay the plywood on the supports and from underneath, trace the bed on the boards. One piece of plywood may cover small truck beds. If two pieces of plywood are needed, use two equal pieces. Remove the plywood and cut along the traced lines. Sand the edges with a belt sander until the plywood fits perfectly in the frame. Rout everything to give it a professional look.
3. Attach the hinges to the frame at the front of the bed and to the plywood cover. Bolt the hinges down using nuts and plastic thread to secure properly. Install locking mechanisms to hold the tonneau down. Padlocks can be added for additional security.
4. Sand the tonneau cover and seal, stain and paint it as desired. Several coats of paint may be necessary.
