Hand siphon pump

hand siphon pump

I bought a small gravity hand siphon pump for draining gas from my garden equipment at seasons end. This pump consists of a piston and cylinder with ahose at the top(input)anda hose at bottom(discharge). directions say to connect, and then pump hand plunger 4-5 times till flow starts and gravity will do the rest. The issue is that sometimes i have to pump 15-20 times to get a flow,if at all. I know the therory is pretty simple, but i need a little more info on the operation. yes,i do have the discharge container lower than the host container. Thanks Most of the time it has everything to do with the quality of the hand pump. I've bought these before as well and most times there isn't enough capacity that you pump into the device to make it go. They make these from under $7 up to $43. This most likely is the reason it is not working properly. Thanks for your reply, Your right. I paid about $13 for it. I thought it would be better than sucking on a hose. I finnaly got it pump after pumping on handle about 15 times. so much for the manufactures claim of 4-5 pumps and flow would start. Thanks again for taking the time to answer such a question. If your just moving a little bit of gas for winterizing, I've had good luck using the bulb type. The kind you usually use to transfer kerosene into a kerosene heater. I'll try that next. Thanks
