Make A Pitbull Gain Weight

You may have rescued it from a bad situation, or it might have just recovered from a serious illness, but either way, you need to pack on the pounds for your pitbull's health and well-being. By following these steps, you'll have your pitbull tipping the scales in no time.

Instructions

1. Consult a veterinarian. Your veterinarian should be informed of any changes to your pet's diet. Sometimes illnesses or other problems can be exacerbated by changes in diet.

2. Use premium dog food. Many dog foods are packed with grain-based fillers; since dogs are primarily carnivores (though they can and do survive on vegetarian diets), you will want a high-protein, good quality dog food. Wet food usually has the most protein, so consider switching to wet food.

3. Maintain food quality. While your pitbull can gain weight with cheaper food, that weight is more likely to be fat and not muscle. Additionally, suddenly switching foods can cause digestive problems in your pitbull, which can make a real mess around your house.

4. Track your dog's progress. If your dog is not gaining weight, losing weight or is not eating the food you give it, you will need to consult your veterinarian as this may be a sign of serious illness. If your dog is gaining too much weight too quickly, you will need to scale back your feedings in order to prevent obesity or other health problems.
