Install My Tekonsha Envoy

Proper installation of the Tekonsha Envoy will ensure your trailer's braking system receives sufficient power.

The Tekonsha Envoy is an electronic brake controller intended to help drivers manage the stopping power of a trailer's electric brake system from inside the cab. However, in order for the controller to properly work it must be securely mounted to the tow vehicle's dash board. Although the process is not difficult, it requires a little patience and planning on the part of the installer to ensure proper operation and reliable trailer stopping power.

Instructions

Dash Mount with Mounting Ball

1. Locate a sturdy spot on the dash board to mount the Tekonsha Envoy. To operate properly, the controller must be positioned with the rear of the unit facing the front of the vehicle and not be connected to any moving parts of the dash, such as the ash tray.

2. Secure a piece of double-sided tape to the bottom of the ball mount bracket. Temporarily place the mounting ball in the selected dash location using the opposite side of the tape.

3. Drill three 1/16-inch diameter holes by using the ball mount as a template. Insert three #6 3/8-inch screws into the pre-drilled holes to secure the mounting bracket in place permanently.

4. Place the mounting screw, included with the Envoy controller, through the bottom of the Envoy's case. Attach the round foam gasket to the top of the controller and attach the Envoy controller to the ball mounting bracket by inserting the mounting screw. Rotate the controller until it faces directly forward and is at a level angle. Tighten the mounting bolt when the controller is in the desired position.

Traditional Bracket Mount

5. Select a secure location on the dashboard and mount the bracket in place. Typically, bracket mounts will be placed on the dash above the accelerator where they can be easily accessed while driving.

6. Slip the Envoy into the bracket mount and insert one #6 3/8-inch screw through the anchor holes on each side of the bracket.

7. Move the Envoy brake controller up and down until it is situated at a level position and snug the screws in place. Once the controller has been securely mounted, park the tow vehicle and trailer on a level surface to adjust the level sensor by rotating the level knob until the LED display light glows green.
