Homemade pineapple juice is one of those treats that's hard to beat. Many home cooks use only the most succulent parts of the fruit to make their juices, discarding the prickly rinds and tough cores as waste. You might be surprised to learn just how much juice you can extract from these parts with the right tools! Read on to learn how you can get more out of your pineapples. Yes, it's possible to extract juice from pineapple rinds and cores.
Instructions
1. Twist the leafy top off of the pineapple with your hand. Set this aside. Using your kitchen knife, carefully carve the rinds off of the outside of the fruit.
2. Carve the fruit off of the core, and set the fruit aside for eating, using in recipes or making juice.
3. Cut the core into several chunks.
4. Put the chunks of core and the pieces of rind into a blender. Add about two tablespoons of water to help facilitate processing. Put the lid on the blender and blend at medium speed until completely liquefied, with the exception of the chunks of rind and the hardest parts of the core. You may need to add more water a little at a time if the mixture looks too thick.
5. Line the strainer with two layers of cheesecloth. Place the strainer in or over the bowl or container you want to use to collect the juice.
6. Slowly and carefully pour the blended mixture into the strainer. The cheesecloth should catch all of the hard chunks and bits of rind. It should leave only fresh juice in your container.
7. Consume or serve the juice shortly after juicing. Pineapple juice ferments quickly, and this results in bitter flavor if you wait too long.
