The California State Employer Identification Number might be on your pay stub.
According to the United States Department of Labor, the Employer Identification Number is a nine-digit unique number that the Internal Revenue Service assigns to businesses that are required to file tax returns. In California, this is the same as a California State Employer ID number. If you're filing a tax return or attending to other tax-related matters, you're going to need this number. If your employer is unavailable for you to ask, there is more than one way to get this number.
Instructions
1. Check your pay stub. Some employers print it on the pay stub; others don't. Keep in mind you're looking for a nine digit number and it might be printed after the words EIN or State Employer ID Number.
2. Check your W-2. Your employer's state identification number will definitely be on your W-2. Check for a nine digit number that says EIN, State Employer ID Number or IRS Employer Identification Number.
3. Visit the official website of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission at sec.gov/edgar.shtml. Click on Search for Company Filings. Click on Company or Fund Name from the following page.
4. Type in the name of your company. Click on find companies at the bottom. A list of documents for your company will come up.
5. Locate the document labeled 10-K and click on the document button beside it. On the following page, click on the red hyperlink next to the text form 10-K.
6. Locate a nine digit number on the top right-hand corner of the document that opens. Beneath it will be the words in parentheses I.R.S. Employer Identification No.
