A large percolator is the most efficient way to make coffee for a big gathering.
Large percolators used to be found in church basements and community halls in neighborhoods all over, but they seem to have lost some of their popularity to smaller, faster coffee pots. Coffee takes longer to brew in large percolators because of the amount of water that needs to be heated. However, for bigger gatherings, large percolators still offer the most efficient method for brewing coffee.
Instructions
1. Place the pump stem in the percolator, making sure it is seated in the well at the bottom of the pot.
2. Fill the percolator to the 30-cup line with cold water.
3. Place the basket that holds the grounds on the pump stem. The water in the percolator should not touch the basket.
4. Add 1 1/2 cups of coffee grounds to the basket. You can adjust the amount to make weaker or stronger coffee.
5. Place the spreader on the top of the basket to prevent the grounds from getting into the coffee.
6. Plug in the percolator and turn on the power. The pot should begin to percolate within a couple of minutes. Most percolators have an indicator light that comes on when the coffee is done. If there is no indicator light, wait until the perking noise stops.
