Follow The Dr Weil Diet

Many people want a diet to keep them healthy as they go through the natural aging process. A healthy diet can reduce the number of medical conditions that come about as you grow older. Dr. Weil's Wellness Diet can provide a person with the nutritional sources needed to maintain optimal health.

Instructions

1. Consider your gender, size and lifestyle in order to determine the amount of calories that you need to consume daily. Smaller body frames and less active individuals should aim to consume 2000 calories while following the Dr. Weil Diet. Individuals with larger body frames and more active lifestyles are recommended a 3000 calorie a day diet.

2. Get most of your calories from carbohydrates. Healthy carb choices are the basis for the Dr. Weil Diet. The physician recommends that you eat whole grain foods and bulgur wheat products. Reduce the amount of foods that contain wheat flour and sugar. This includes white bread, pretzels, white rice and potato chips.

3. Meet your nutritional and vitamin needs by eating fruits and vegetables. The Dr. Weil diet recommends using color as your guide to decide on the fruits and veggies that you consume. Eat cherries, tomatoes, broccoli, yellow peppers and oranges. You may need a daily supplement of vitamin C and E as well.

4. Eat less saturated fat. Sources of saturated fat include butter, cheese and fatty meats. You want to consume healthy fat sources instead, like olive oil, canola oil and fatty fishes.

5. Reduce the amount of animal protein that you eat. Beans and fish are the protein sources that you should eat most often while following the diet.
