Ayurvedic Home Remedies

Over-the-counter or prescription drugs can cure almost all your common complaints. But you can be at risk of suffering from several side effects from certain chemical compounds used in the drugs. Ayurveda, on the other hand, combines only naturally occurring herbs and general measures to treat ailments. Turmeric, cloves, pepper, garlic, coriander and ginger are some of the most commonly used ingredients for Ayurvedic home remedies.


Arthritis


For relief from arthritis, take 2 tsp. of lime juice and 1 tsp. of honey with 1 cup of tepid water two times a day. For another remedy, bake, crush and then fry an eggplant in 2 tbsp. castor oil with coriander, turmeric, garlic and salt used as seasonings. Take this once a day for a couple of months for relief. Combine 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder with warm water twice a day, or one clove of fresh garlic once a day, to get provide relief from arthritis pain.


Blood Pressure


Mix equal portions of honey and onion juice and have a couple of teaspoons each day for a month. This, along with ripe papaya consumed every morning before breakfast, are effective Ayurvedic home cures for blood pressure. According to Ayurveda specialists, regular intake of carrot juice, coconut water and amla powder (available at Indian grocery stores) are beneficial too.


The Common Cold


For battling the common cold, grind seven peppercorns with 1 tbsp. honey and have it before breakfast, followed immediately after with a clove of fresh garlic swallowed without chewing. Make a tea by boiling 2 cups of water with 1 tbsp. each of honey, ginger and fennel seeds, such that only a cup of the concoction remains after evaporation. Drink this, with or without adding tea leaves, as many times a day as possible.


Obesity


Honey helps stimulate the accumulated unnecessary body fat to be broken down for energy for regular activities. Take a tablespoon of honey with hot water and a teaspoon of fresh lime juice every morning before breakfast to lose fat. Cabbage, both in the raw and cooked forms, suppresses the change of carbohydrates and sugars into fat. Having cabbage in salads or other dishes can help reduce weight.


Low Libido


Fry equal portions of black gram, wheat, rice and long pepper powders and make a soup of the mixture with sugar and milk. Have it before bedtime every night. Another Ayurvedic herbal treatment involves steeping a tablespoon of triphala powder (available in Indian grocery stores) in a cup of water and leaving it undisturbed for 30 minutes. Then, mix it with a tablespoon of honey and have it every morning before breakfast.
