Get My Noaa Radio To Pick Up The Right Signal

Program the SAME codes into your weather radio to get alerts specific to your area.

The Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology built into National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radios allows you to receive localized broadcasts. SAME alerts contain weather conditions, forecasts and warnings that are specific to your area--right down to the county. However, you want to receive the important alerts that apply to you without waiting through the broadcasts that don't. Fortunately, programming the correct SAME code into your NOAA weather radio is just about as easy as tuning an FM radio.

Instructions

1. Locate the SAME codes for your area on the NOAA website (see Resources for address). Follow the link for your state, and then your county, to locate your code.

2. Install the back-up batteries into the rear of your NOAA weather radio. Connect the radio to a power outlet and turn it on.

3. Press the "Menu" or "Channel" button on your radio, and then select the "SAME," "SAME SET" or "County Code" option from the menu. Select the "Single" option from the menu to enter your SAME code.

4. Use the arrow keys to set the digits in the SAME code template to your county's code, and then exit the menu.
