Check Complaints Against Chiropractors

Chiropractors often treat back injuries.

Chiropractors are doctors who treat problems of the musculoskeletal system. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, there were 49,100 chiropractors practicing in the United States in 2008. Chiropractors are required to be licensed by the Board of Chiropractor Examiners in each state in which they practice. In many states, you can search online to see if there have been any complaints or disciplinary action taken against a chiropractor in your area. You can also call the board to find if there have been any registered complaints.

Instructions

1. Search for the contact information or website of the Board of Chiropractor Examiners in your state. You can do an internet search on Board of Chiropractor Examiner and your state name. The board's website should come up.

2. Complete a license search. The board should have an option so you can view your chiropractor's license information. Search by name and click on the appropriate link.

3. View any disciplinary action that has been taken against your chiropractor. You will be able to see if his license is clear or if there have been any problems. You may have to navigate to a different page to view any past disciplinary actions.

4. Call the board. Some states only list disciplinary action online but you can call the board to find out if there were other complaints that were dismissed. Find the contact information and call or email the board about your concern.
