Have Mercury Amalgam Fillings Safely Removed

A dentist will want to look at your mercury amalgam fillings.

Mercury is extremely toxic to humans. Yet dentists have been using mercury based fillings since the 1800s to fill cracks and cavities in teeth. Mercury amalgam fillings are under fire because of a widespread belief that they are unsafe and can cause mercury poisoning. Though science has not proven amalgam fillings safe or unsafe, many patients have decided to replace old mercury fillings with composite fillings as a precaution. The process of removing mercury amalgam is known to release mercury vapor into the surrounding air. Precautions should be taken to avoid increased exposure when having them removed.

Instructions

1. Call your dentist's office to schedule an appointment to discuss the removal of your amalgam fillings. Write down the reasons you want to have your fillings removed before you go, in case your dentist opposes their removal. Be prepared to choose a different doctor if your dentist refuses to remove your fillings. Choose a "natural" dentist, if you switch; they are more focused on amalgam alternatives and removing existing fillings safely.

2. Follow the immunity-building and detoxification advice of your dentist leading up to the filling removal. This usually includes a course of certain vitamins and minerals designed to help your body rid itself of mercury released during the removal, as well as mercury in your body from current exposure.

3. Insist your dentist take precautions to protect you from mercury exposure during your appointment, such as using a rubber dam in your mouth, covering your clothing and skin, and supplying you with fresh air through a nose mask. Breathe only through your nose during filling removal to avoid breathing in mercury vapor.

4. Remove your clothing and take a shower when you get home from your filling removal appointment to reduce mercury absorption.

5. Follow the detoxification advice from your dentist to continue removing mercury from your body after the filling has been removed.
