Christmas Ideas For New Boyfriends

Choose the right gift for that new guy in your life.

So you have a new boyfriend and want to get him a nice Christmas present to show that you care. But you don't want to frighten him away by appearing to care too much to soon. Rest assured, you can get him a nice gift that doesn't cost an extravagant sum. Start by learning more about his interests. Is he an athlete or fitness buff? Does he play a musical instrument? Let his interests guide you. Once you start looking at gift possibilities in his areas of interest you will soon find that they can cost anywhere from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. Finding something that will please him while still being tastefully modest will wind up being much easier than you thought.

For Athletes:

Identify his sport or fitness routine. This will give you an idea of what to get for him. For instance, if he plays tennis, your options include headbands, wristbands, a new racket and maybe even a gift certificate to a different court. A headband costs just a few dollars, while a good tennis racket will run more than $200. If your new honey is more of a sit-at-home-and-watch-the-game sort of guy, consider tickets to a Major League or NFL game. But prices may be steep. Consider tickets to a Minor League game. Or forget about going to the game and just get him a jersey.

For Gamers:

Determine what type of gamer he is. You can do this by identifying his game console. The three most popular consoles as of 2010 were the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. You will have to get a little close to his entertainment center to figure this out, or you can get the information out of him by asking cleverly. Once you figure out what he prefers to play on, you have a few options. Consider new controllers or accessories for his specific game console, or if you know what kind of games he likes, buy one or two for him. If you don't have any idea of what kind of games he likes, you can never go wrong with a gift card to a game store. Video games that are just coming on the market can cost about $50, while those that have been available for a while cost about half as much. Accessories, too, can be much more affordable.

For Artists:

Find something that play to his artistic interests. If he plays the guitar, buying a new one for him could cost $200 to more than $1,000, which might be more than you want to spend on a relationship that isn't 100 percent committed yet. But you could get your guy new strings or new music. If he likes to paint or sculpt, new supplies are likely to be appreciated. Perhaps a more imaginative gift is a membership to the finest art museum in your city. This will give him perks such as free admission to special exhibits and access to special programs. It's also a gift that the two of you can use all year to further your relationship.

Gift Cards:

If none of these gift options resonate, consider the tried-and-true gift certificate. Make it to the men's store that he prefers, the movie theater closest to his home or the restaurant where the two of you enjoy going. A gift certificate is one of the most practical gifts you can put under his Christmas tree.
