Make Fragrance Oils For Lamp Diffusers

Store fragrant oils in glass jars.

Using essential oils in a diffuser is an excellent method for adding fragrance to your home. Diffusers of all kinds are used in many homes, and many users are interested in learning to make their own custom scents. Making your own fragrant oils is not only a simple project, but it also saves you from having to purchase expensive retail oil products. The sky is the limit when it comes to selecting or creating a fragrance, but there are several steps that should be followed to achieve the best results.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Buy an essential oil. Popular scent choices include vanilla, jasmine, rose and apple. You can also go the aromatherapy route; there are plenty of oils that specialize in everything from helping migraines to stress reduction. Because this is such a quick project, you can make several diffuser fragrances to use in varying areas around the home.

2. Pour the reed diffuser oil base into a narrow-necked, 4-oz. glass bottle. Add a few drops of your choice essential oil. Replace the cap, and gently shake and move the bottle to properly stir the mix. The finished mixture should appear well-blended and at a medium consistency similar to that of corn or vegetable oil.

3. Add 1/4 oz. of the perfumer's alcohol if your mixture is too thick. This will help dilute the oil. Continue adding 1/4 oz. of the alcohol at a time until desired consistency is reached. Your finished product should not be as dense as syrup and not as thin as water.

4. Pour the oil into a glass storage jar or bottle, or simply leave it in the 4-oz. bottle. If you make more oils, you can keep a collection on a shelf or table for easy access and as home decor.

5. Pour the essential oil into your lamp ring, and turn the light on to enjoy your homemade scent.
