How Do Allergies Work

Reason for Reactions

Allergies directly affect the immune system and cause symptoms that are similar to those of influenza. Respiratory allergies are typically caused by pollen, germs, and other environmental factors that strongly affect the host when inhaled. Different types of respiratory allergies can affect everyone differently and are typically inherited (See References). This is why cold weather can cause allergies in some, and dry weather can cause allergies to flare in others. Since genetics, hygiene, and environmental factors can all play a cause for why a person has allergies it's extremely difficult for doctors to treat allergies. Many over-the-counter allergy products and decongestants may only help some depending on what the direct cause of the allergies may be. Other reasons for allergies can also be food or pets, and doctors will recommend that you never eat any of the type of food that gives you an allergic reaction.

Respiratory Allergies

Breathing any pollen or anything that causes an allergic reaction goes through your nostrils into the lining of your nose. This is where allergen disrupts the immune system and the immune system then begins to counteract or neutralize the iritants. Mast cells release histamines into your respiratory tissues, which causes the allergy symptoms to occur (See References). For example, the first time you breathe in an allergen, your immune system detects the allergen to be harmful and creates antibodies to fight it. However, as you continue to breathe in the same allergen, your immune system will create a large defense of antibodies that cause the cold like symptoms to occur. Typical symptoms involve sneezing, sinus discharge, congestion, and a sore throat. Since your immune system is producing too much histamine, that is why over-the-counter anti-histamine products should relieve some of the symptoms that one experiences.

Detoxification

The most common and recommended cure for respiratory allergies is to detoxify the body. According to the article, "How Respiratory Allergies Work," the cleansing of the colon and liver can be a helpful step towards fighting extreme cases of respiratory allergies, and this also helps to stop any allergens that may have passed into other areas of the body (See References). Detoxification will stabilize and desensitize the reaction that occur in the respiratory membranes (See References). Homeopaths can also desensitize the allergens and strengthen the immune system. This involves injected a mixed remedy that is full of the irritant that is harming your immune system in order to counter the allergen. The method does not always work, but for some it can greatly reduce the cause of the allergic reaction.
