Know If You'Re Experiencing Perimenopause

Perimenopause can occur in your 30s, 40s or 50s!

Women normally experience perimenopause in their mid-40s to mid-50s but can start while still in their 30s. If you think you might be experiencing perimenopause--the time leading up to menopause when you start to notice menopause-related changes--look for the following signs and symptoms.

Instructions

1. Notice changes in the pattern, severity or length of your periods. They can become lighter or heavier, last a longer or shorter amount of time or occur more or less frequently.

2. Be aware of hot flashes or night sweats and chills. A hot flash is basically a sudden rush of heat felt in your upper body. A night sweat is simply a hot flash while you sleep.

3. Determine if you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. If this is your only symptom, consider other factors such as stress and caffeine.

4. Look for vaginal dryness and an increase of facial hair and/or decrease of hair on your head.

5. Notice if you feel grouchy, have mood changes, feel confused or have trouble staying focused.
