Dogs can be wonderful pets.
Having a canine companion can be one of the true joys of life. Dogs are loyal, and love without limits. One important thing to note, however, is that a dog is a lifetime companion. You can't simply discard a dog when you no longer want it. Knowing take care of your dog is the most important step you can take as an owner.
Indoor Dog
The most intimate relationship with your dog can develop by giving him a place in your home. Allowing your dog into your space and your internal family relationships bonds the dog more tightly to you than in any other environment. The dog is a pack animal, and your home and your family will become his "pack." He will repay you with a lifetime of loyalty and love.
Indoor and Outdoor Dog
This method of caring for your canine is a good mix between having your dog spend time outside and time inside. Generally, the dog will be put outside when people are not in the house, and brought into the house when people are home. Because dogs need to exercise and people need to work, this is a good method of care for most dogs.
Outdoor Dog
Keeping your dog outdoors at all times is a very common method of care for many families. With this method, it may not have as much chance to bond with its human owners. It is also critical that proper shelter from inclement weather be provided for the dog if it is not allowed inside the home or garage.
Kennel Care
Some breeders or large dog operations require their dogs to be kept in a kennel-type environment. These are fenced structures in the shape of a "run" with a shelter placed at one end, and the dog's food and water given through a gate once or twice a day. This can be a very "hands-off" method of caring for a dog, and is not recommended if you want a close bond with your dog.
