What Not To Take With Nexium

Nexium is the brand name for esomeprazole, a medicine that treats symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and some other conditions that form excess stomach acid and acid reflux. As with any medication, it's important to be aware of other prescription and over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, foods and drinks that could cause a dangerous interaction or require the physician to adjust the Nexium dosage.

Allergic Reactions

If you are allergic to esomeprazole, albendazole or mebendazole, do not take Nexium.

Prescription Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor if you are taking Plavix (clopidogrel), Digitek, Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps digoxin), Valium (diazepam), antifungals such as Nizoral (ketoconazole) or AIDS medications including Reyataz (atazanavir), Invirase (saquinavir), Vfend (voriconazole), or Viracept ( nelfinavir). Also tell your doctor if you are on Coumadin (warfarin) or other blood thinners.

Non-Prescription Medicines

Mention any vitamins, herbals or nutritional supplements you take. Even though they are not prescription, he may need to adjust the dose of Nexium or monitor you for side effects.

Food and Drink

Your diet can affect your symptoms, so follow your doctor's recommendations on foods and beverages that you should avoid or restrict.

Other Considerations

If you forget to take your Nexium on schedule, take it as soon as you remember unless it's almost time for the next dose. Then do not take extra that second dose. If, while taking Nexium, you still feel that you need to take an antacid, talk to your doctor first and ask for recommendations on taking it.

Warnings

Your doctor is the best guide so make sure that you discuss all prescription and over-the-counter medications, nutritional supplements, vitamins, and your dietary plan. Read the medication guide provided with Nexium. Follow your doctor's instructions.
