Holistic Cures For Tinnitus

Holistic Cures for Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a condition that affects millions of people's hearing each year. Basically, sufferers hear buzzing, ringing, chirping or whistling noises when no such noise is present. The severity ranges from mildly annoying to severe, where people have trouble concentrating and sleeping; some even encounter psychological distress. Fortunately, several holistic treatments are available to help those who suffer from tinnitus.

Accupuncture and Accupressure

Deep thumb pressure applied to the following points for one minute can relieve tinnitus: GB 2, GB 20, TW 17, TW 21, LI 4, LI 11, GV 15, TW 3, TW 5, CV 23, K 3, LIV 2, BI 23.

Ayurveda

Tinnitus is a vata disorder according to Ayurveda, a traditional form of alternative medicine. And it can be alleviated by drinking a tea made of comfrey, chamomile and cinnamon two or three times a day.

Taking 200 mg of yogaraj guggulu two or three times a day with warm water after eating can help as well.

Deep Breathing

For cases of mild tinnitus, sometimes simply taking your mind off of the "noise" helps a lot. Deep breathing can help tinnitus sufferers relax; they should take at least 175 continuous, deep breaths every hour until their symptoms improve.

Color Therapy

Color therapy is effective for many tinnitus sufferers; blue should be used for 30 minutes each morning and night, followed by 10 minutes of indigo.

Herbal Medicine

Some herbs are considered to be effective for treating tinnitus: sesame oil (taken twice daily); garlic oil (three drops should be placed in the ear before going to bed at night); chamomile, cinnamon and comfrey (brewed for 1 minute to make an herbal tea).

Massage

Massage can be effective in releiving tinnitus symptoms. Holding the ears to the head and massaging the outer edges of both ears and earlobes several times a day can be helpful. Or try massaging the hollows behind the jawbone and beneath the ears once a day.

Nutrition

Foods that are known to make tinnitus worse are alcohol, caffeine, salt and excessive amounts of refined sugar.

Regularly chewing dried fruit helps increase ear circulation and might help some tinnitus sufferers.

For some people, tinnitus results from a vitamin deficiency. The following daily dosages can help ease this condition: 50 mg of vitamin B complex (B12, B6, B5), 10,000 IU of vitamin A, 400 IU of vitamin E, choline, 30 mg zinc.
