Bath Lift Chairs

Whether you are disabled by age or injury, getting around can be challenging. You want to be able to do for yourself, but your body gets in the way. Showering and bathing one of the most challenging tasks of all, and without assistance from someone or something, it is either dangerous or simply impossible. Bath lift chairs make it possible for you to get in and out of the tub on your own, significantly reducing the risk of further injury.

How Bath Lift Chairs Work

You sit on the seat of the bath lift chair, and it lowers you into the tub. It sinks down to an inch from the bottom of the tub and raises back up over the edge of the tub for ease in getting out. Most models have a swivel seat that makes getting on and off the bath lift chair easier. Once you are on the seat, you just press a button that allows the chair to move down into the tub, or press a second button to lift it back up. Bath chair lifts are fully automated.

How Bath Chair Lifts Are Installed

There are a variety of models, but the most common are mounted with suction cups or aluminum platforms. Bath chair lifts do not require any drilling or changes to the bath fixtures. When you are finished, other family members can easily remove the bath chair lift to use the tub or shower normally.

Power Source

Bath chairs are powered by one of two methods. Battery-operated lifts have an external battery that sits alongside the tub and power the chair. Air-powered lifts have hydraulic frames that are self-contained. Both power styles are easily operated with push buttons.

Styles of Bath Chair Lifts

The most common style of bath chair lift is a straight-back chair. Some models have "wings" attached at the sides of the seat to give extra sitting area. One of the most popular models has a reclining back that allows you to lean back in the tub and relax. Fully reclining models are the most expensive and are most commonly used with small children. They have straps to keep the child safely on the unit even in its fully reclined position.

Safety First

The bathroom is considered one of the most dangerous rooms in the home, even when a person is not incapacitated. A bath chair lift makes getting around and taking care of your personal hygiene easier and safer for you.
