Hospitals, medical centers and other health care facilities have a constant need for health care professionals to provide communities, patients and families with reliable information, advice and health care services. To meet that need, many colleges and universities are increasing the enrollment in their Masters of Health Care Administration (MHA) programs. You should be aware of the typical admissions requirements before applying to a MHA program and the commitment involved if you are accepted.
Qualifications
Candidates should have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Institutions may also require you to submit a standardized test score, such as the GRE or GMAT.
Duration
MHA programs typically consist of 39 to 44 credits and take an average of two full years to complete for full-time students.
The Curriculum
Students are required to complete a number of required and elective courses, including an introduction to health care, health care economics and health law. Additional requirements may include a research seminar, internship or practicum.
Prerequisites
Although you are not required to have a bachelor's degree in the health field, many graduate schools require courses in accounting and statistics.
