Spot Symptoms Of Keloids

A keloid is a type of scar that covers an injury then keeps on growing. It raises high up above the skin and can progressively bigger and misshapen. It can be small and painless or grow large, painful, unsightly, and decrease quality of life.

Instructions

1. Understand the keloid. Unlike a regular scar, keloids do not reduce or repair over time. Keloids can appear after surgery or injury, as well as along with a pimple, piercing or burn.

2. Sighting the difference between a scar and a keloid. The way to spot the difference between a keloid scar and a regular scar is to notice the physical characteristics.

3. See the physical changes. The usual scar will remain flat and be confined to the site of the injury. The keloid scar will develop as a pinkish ridged growth that takes on a domed shape and expands beyond the injured site.

4. Notice the symptoms. Pain and itching will likely accompany the keloid scar as well. This isn’t the case of a usual scar.

5. Reduction is key. The usual scar will reduce in appearance over time but the keloid scar will not.

6. Treating the keloid. There are many treatments available from injections to surgery, but the best bet is not to get one. So if you have had a keloid before it is advised to avoid elective surgery, piercing, or other things that involve scarring.
