What Kind Of Stone Is Royal Larimar

Larimar are popular gems for rings

It is not only the waters of the Caribbean that are beautifully blue. Another blue treasure can be found on the island of the Dominican Republic: the Larimar stone. You may have seen the Larimar before as a gemstone in jewelry, but did not know its name or confused it with a sapphire.

The Larimar stone is also known under the names Atlantis stone and Stefilia's stone. The stone is only found in the Dominican Republic. It is a rare blue variety of pectolite. It varies in color from light blue and green-blue to a deep blue. The natives of the Dominican Republic simply call the stone the "Blue Stone." It received its current name from Miguel Mendez, who combined the word "mar" (Spanish for sea) and the first part of his daughter's name (Larissa) into the word "Larimar."

History

The Larimar stone only came to the public's attention in the 1970s when it was discovered by a Peace Corps volunteer named Norman Rilling.

The stone could have been discovered earlier. Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren had requested permission for the exploration of a mine he had found in the Dominican Republic. There was a blue rock in the mine that he wanted to explore further. However, the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Mining rejected his request on November 23, 1916.

Uses

The Larimar stone can be used to create pendants, earrings and rings. The stone is mainly used in silver jewelry and widely available in the Dominican Republic, but has also become available elsewhere through export. People also use the stone as a decoration, e.g., sitting on a book shelf.

Healing Properties

Many people believe in the healing powers of stones. The Larimar, as a blue stone, can have a positive influence on the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras. The stone can help people who feel tense and stressed to relax. The blue color of the Larimar can have a calming effect on a busy mind. The easiest way to experience these benefits is to wear the stone as a pendant close to your body.
