Trigger Points to Relieve Body Pain
There are many trigger points throughout your body that can cause you to feel pain in the areas surrounding the trigger point. Treating these trigger points is often a surprising way to relieve pain throughout the body.

Applying deep manual pressure to trigger points over time is often an effective method of treating myofacial pain syndrome, which is basically just chronic muscle pain. This is known as trigger point therapy.
Trigger Point Locations
To locate a specific trigger point in your body, probe the tissue around the sore muscle area until you come across a very tender point. Applying pressure will usually produce a sensation of tingling, aching, sharp pain or numbness to the surrounding area.
Trigger Point Injections
Doctors commonly use a solution of 1 percent lidocaine or 1 percent procaine and inject it into a trigger point to disrupt the contraction knots and relieve pain. The results of pain relief are usually immediate.
Trigger Point Devices
To make trigger point therapy easier to perform on yourself, there are certain devices that you can use. One of best tools, especially for reaching the back, is the Thera Cane, which can be purchased for roughly $40 as of January 2010.
Stretching
Physical therapists often perform certain muscle stretches to relieve trigger point pain. Once you learn do them, you can usually perform them yourself.
