Know If A Hamstring Is Torn

If you're a sprinter or do any type of rigorous exercise involving your legs and you are having pain, you may be wondering if your hamstring is torn. The hamstring is a tendon on the back of your knee. It can be difficult to tell, and you should always consult a doctor if you are in extreme pain. But there are some ways to tell on your own if your hamstring is torn.

1. Check out the back of your knee for bruising. Muscle contusions can cause bleeding, which leads to bruises on the back of your knees. Torn hamstrings can be caused by a lot of things, such as rigorous activity or a hard blow.


2. Look for swelling around the knee or the back of the knee. This should be very obvious and painful, if it happens. This is a major sign that your hamstring may be torn. You need to wear a compressed bandage if this is the case, as it will help with the swelling.


3. Assess the level of pain you are experiencing. Depending on the amount of pain and the severity of your symptoms, you may be able to tell if your hamstring is torn.


4. Attempt to move your knee up and down. If it hurts too badly, stop the movement. If you have difficulty bending your leg, you may have a torn hamstring.








5. Feel for sore spots on your knee. When you put pressure on certain spots on the back of your knee, determine if you are in pain. If you find a spot on the back of your knee in which you feel excruciating pain when you apply pressure, you likely have a torn hamstring.
