Calculate Lantus Dosage

Lantus or Insulin Glargine serves as an effective treatment of Type II diabetes. Insulin is the paramount hormone that converts consumed food into energetic calories. Type II diabetes causes a lower amount of insulin production in the body, which results in higher levels of sugar in the blood. Lantus should only be consumed with physician's prescription. A patient who is taking a regular Lantus dosage should not consume alcohol or tobacco. Lantus can have side effects, such as stress, kidney disorders and liver disease, so proper dosage is very important.

Instructions

1. Visit your physician (preferably the one who diagnosed your diabetes) and ask for a Lantus prescription. You will be prescribed a dosage mainly based on your other insulin medicines. The greater number of insulin medications you take, the less Lantus will be prescribed to you.

2. Administer Lantus as prescribed. You will likely start out on the typical dose of 0.1mL per day to be injected into the muscle of the arm or leg.

3. Increase the dosage each morning until the blood sugar level reaches a reading that is below 140. For instance, increase the dosage by 0.02mL until you reach the target reading.
