Identify Symptoms Of A Vaginal Infection

Many women will suffer from at least one vaginal infection in their lifetime. Some, such as yeast infections, are common and can be treated using over the counter products but others, such as bacterial vaginosis or sexually transmitted infections, must be treated with prescription medication. Some women are prone to infections and know, based on their symptoms, exactly what is going on with their bodies. For others, it’s necessary to be evaluated by a doctor to be sure that they are being treated for the right infection.

Instructions

1. Notice changes in your normal discharge. This includes changes in color or consistency. A thick, cottage cheese like discharge usually is associated with yeast infection, while a thin discharge may be a symptom of bacterial vaginosis. Other changes in discharge may also represent sexually transmitted infections.

2. Be aware if there is a foul odor coming from the discharge, in general, or after sexual intercourse.

3. Experiencing vaginal itching and irritation almost always indicates a vaginal infection. The other symptoms help determine what type of infection is causing this discomfort

4. Feeling pain or a burning sensation during urination may be indicative of a vaginal or urinary tract infection. It is important to see a doctor to determine which.

5. Having pelvic pain during sexual intercourse may point to a vaginal infection and should be evaluated by a doctor.
