Manage Nearsightedness

Nearsightedness, or myopia, is a very common condition that can be managed quite well. There is not always a discernible reason that someone becomes nearsighted, but if you are, there are several things you can do to bring your sight back up to 20/20. It is important that you get help for your nearsightedness, or it could get worse. It can also cause headaches, which are not going to go away until you do correct the problem.

Instructions

1. Make sure there are no underlying conditions in your body that are creating the nearsightedness. In such a case, the nearsightedness will only be corrected when the disease that is stimulating it is treated. The only way to rule out such a cause is to see a doctor for a checkup.

2. Your doctor can fit you for glasses. Sometimes, one eye will be weaker than the other, and your specialist can make a pair of glasses for you that will bring them back into alignment. You will be able to choose from many different styles, colors and features (like sunglass covers that flip on and off).

3. The younger you are, the more likely you may want to wear contact lenses. Contacts are also great for individuals who play sports, who don't have to worry about breakage and getting glass in their eyes. Your doctor will give you a few lessons in put the contacts in, take them out, and care for them properly.

4. Have surgery. Not all nearsighted folks are candidates for vision-correction surgery, so you will have to ask your doctor if you qualify. In the surgery, a cut is made in your eye to make it go back to its round shape. (The eyes of the nearsighted are more ovate in shape than normal.) Once the surgery is over, you should be able to see at a 20/20 level without contacts or glasses.
