Get Shocking Pics Out Of Your Mind

There may be an isolated incident that you can't get out of your mind. The more shocking and upsetting the scene, the harder is will be to stop thinking about the images from it. Time and distance from the situation is one of the best healers. Until then, you can try these different things to help you clear the shocking picture from your mind.

Instructions

1. Clear your mind of all thoughts. Focus on a candle flame, thinking of nothing but the flicker for a minute or two. You could also try closing your eyes and imagining that each thought is being carried away in a bubble or balloon. Capture each thought and watch them float up and away.

2. Use positive guided imagery to redirect your thoughts and calm your overwhelmed senses. Use guided imagery to transport your thoughts to a happier time and place. Use guided imagery audio recordings if you don't know do it yourself. Most new age stores carry them.

3. Talk through the situation with your friends, family or a counselor. Talking out loud may be one of the best ways to help the image to eventually dissipate. Sharing the picture with others can help your body's natural coping mechanisms kick in.

4. Decribe the shocking image in detail in a journal. Note where it took place, who was there and how it makes you feel. Even though you are not sharing the experience with someone else, the act of "telling" your story, even if it is just a diary for yourself, may help you deal with image.
