Teen Room Designs That Bring Peace

Your teen's bedroom should feel calm and peaceful.

The decor in your teen's bedroom can represent her passion and desire for world peace or simply create a peaceful environment for her to rest, relax and entertain in. The colors, furniture and accessories should complement each other to get the peaceful look and feel you both desire.

Peace Signs

Use peace signs if your teen is passionate about world peace and embraces the symbol. A peace sign bedroom can include tie-dye and loud colors in true hippie fashion or simple symbols with calm, soothing colors. Tie-dye bedding, curtains and posters can all have black peace signs on them to stand out, or opt for a tie-dye peace sign over a solid color, such as pink or blue. Frame posters or paint your own peace sign mural on the walls or on a blank canvas. Inspirational posters or quotes would also work in the room.

Eco-Friendly

Create an eco-friendly bedroom if your teen is all about "going green." Use recycled carpet tiles or renewable sources, such as bamboo for the flooring, which will set the tone in the room. Use recycled or secondhand wood furniture. Eco-friendly paint can update the look of older furniture, making the pieces match and appear new. Make curtains out of old sheets or use bamboo shades. Turn your teen's favorite old T-shirts into throw pillows. Frame posters that feature images of your teen's favorite rain forests, animals or eco-friendly messages.

Zen Paradise

Peaceful surroundings can lead to a calm, peaceful demeanor, even in teens. Use simple lines and soothing, neutral colors for your teen's Zen bedroom. A low-profile platform bed with low nightstands and a dresser will work well. Use a cream or tan comforter with sheets, rugs and window coverings in varying shades of the neutral color. Add candles, a bonsai tree or miniature sand garden. Use a single burst of color in two or three small items for interest, such as a bright turquoise throw pillow, rug and vase. Use folding Shoji screens to hide any clutter if necessary.

Back to Mother Earth

Use a nature-inspired theme with cool earth tones, such as blue, that tend to bring feelings of peace. Paint the walls a soft tan if you prefer warm colors or a light gray or blue for a cooler effect. The furniture can be light, natural wood, such as birch, white for a beach look or chocolate brown if your teen prefers the forest. Hang framed images or paint a mural behind the bed of trees, or paint the beach and ocean if possible. Add a few natural accessories, such as a house tree, or display your teen's seashell collection to complete the room.
