Prevent Forgetfulness

Forgetting the names of people you just met or losing your car in parking lots can be a frustrating experience. There is no need to worry. Forgetfulness is curable and with some effort, your memory can improve greatly.

Instructions

1. To begin, make a list of what you need to do for the upcoming day or week. Include important events, things you need to buy, or people you have to meet. By writing this information down, it frees your mind, allowing you to focus on other issues at hand.

2. If you do not have access to a pen and paper try to categorize a list in your head. For example, if you're on the way to the supermarket and you know you need 10 items, think to yourself: three fruits, two sodas, five canned goods.

3. Remembering the names of people we just met can be difficult at times. In your mind, try to associate a unique feature or characteristic of that person and connect the name to it.

4. If you forget words easily, try reading more. By reading books and stories you will gradually see more words, improving your vocabulary.

5. When studying for tests, try quizzing yourself before the actual test. This will be a good measure of how much you actually know. Nothing feels worse than forgetting key information in the middle of an exam.
