Signs & Symptoms Of Hormone Imbalance In Men

Signs & Symptoms of Hormone Imbalance in Men

As men hit the age of 40, their testosterone levels peak and then they begin to decrease. This is a natural occurrence in most men. However, for some men, they experience an increased amount of hormone imbalance. In other words, their testosterone levels are not where they should be for a man of his age. Understanding the signs and symptoms of a hormone imbalance in men is an effective way to diagnose it.

Physical Body Changes

Testosterone is the hormone required for a man's physique (it explains why men are taller, bigger, and more muscular than women). So when there is a a testosterone imbalance, muscle mass might suddenly decrease. More importantly, the bone density will diminish. A man might develop larger-than-normal breasts. Finally, an individual with a hormone imbalance will see weight gain in the midsection of the body. While it is common for men to gain weight as they age, this will be a dramatic gain in weight that is unusual for his age and body type.

Mental Changes

With the drop in testosterone, a man might experience numerous different mental changes. First and foremost, he might have a meaner temper than he normally had. He could suffer from insomnia, finding it nearly impossible to get any lengthy amounts of sleep. A mixture of anxiety, stress, and depression could lead to a decreased amount of motivation and an increased amount of apathy towards things that used to be important.

Sexual Drive

Because testosterone is a sex hormone, if there is less of it, a male's sexuality changes. Difficulty achieving erections both in the morning and during stimulation is common. The inability to achieve an erection can cause anxiety, which could further impact the dysfunction. Another aspect that changes is a man's overall sex drive. With a hormone imbalance, the desire for sex might disappear entirely.
