Side Effects Of Imitrex Tablets

Imitrex is the brand name of the drug sumatriptan succinate, prescribed to treat migraine headaches (with or without aura). Manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, the medication has many possible side effects, but most are uncommon.


Most Common Side Effects


In clinical trials, the most common side effect of Imitrex tablets was abnormal skin sensations such as numbness, prickling, tingling a burning sensation. These effects occurred in nearly half of the groups.


Additional Common Effects


Other common side effects include chest tightness, neck pain, weakness, dizziness, fatigue, nausea and facial flushing.


Less Common Effects








Side effects of Imitrex tablets which typically occur in fewer than five percent of users include abdominal pain, anxiety, difficulty swallowing, drowsiness, dry mouth, jaw pain, muscle pain and sweating.


Rare Effects








Side effects which have been reported but are very rare include breast tenderness, and a decrease or increase in blood pressure.


Warning


Rare but dangerous side effects which should be reported to a physician immediately include shortness of breath or asthma, bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, irregular heart rate or blurred vision.
