Cope With Stress And High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a very stressful time for the mother to be. For some women, high stress levels can lead to high blood pressure, which can be dangerous for both the mom and the baby. Coping techniques are very important in dealing with stress during pregnancy. Here are some suggestions to ease the stress.

Instructions

1. Get plenty of rest. Try to take naps during the day when you can and attempt to go to bed early each night. Set aside some time every day for you to simply relax and put your feet up. If you don't get enough rest, you may feel tired and stressed, which can lead to high blood pressure.

2. Eat well and exercise. A well-balanced diet of nutrient rich foods and exercising several times a week will help you feel better and minimize your stress level. Doing so can also bring down high blood pressure.

3. Talk about things that cause you stress with others. You may talk to a girlfriend, to your mom, to your spouse or to your doctor. Sometimes, simply talking about things can make you feel better and minimize your stress levels.

4. Do things for yourself. Take the time to do activities that you enjoy throughout your pregnancy. You may want to read or go see a movie. You may choose to sew, scrapbook, get a massage or listen to soothing music. Choose whatever most interests you.

5. Practice breathing techniques for when you feel stressed. Slow, gentle and deep breaths can help lower your stress levels and your blood pressure.

6. Know that it's ok to say "no" when someone asks you do to something. An overbooked schedule can cause stress in anyone, especially a pregnant woman. Keep some time free in your schedule so you don't get to the point of feeling overwhelmed, out of control and stressed out.

7. Pamper yourself with a pedicure, especially when you can't bend over far enough to trim your toenails. A good foot rub with your pedicure is relaxing and helps to reduce your stress.
