Uses For Mirapex

Mirapex is a prescription medication most often used in the treatment of restless legs syndrome (RLS) or Parkinson's disease. It works to help the body manage the symptoms of these conditions, and allows for easy, controlled muscle movement.

Function

Mirapex helps to control body movement by balancing out the natural dopamine neurotransmitters in the brain while also stimulating nerve cells.

Time Frame

If used for restless leg syndrome, Mirapex is generally taken a once a day a few hours before bedtime. When treating Parkinson's, the recommended dosage is usually three times a day.

Benefits

Mirapex has been found to be a commonly tolerable medicine for patients taking the correct dosage, and does not interfere with other medications. It is also easily removed through the kidneys, causing no damage there.

Considerations

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, some studies show that patients taking Mirapex developed gambling problems, began to overeat and had an increased interest in sex, but it is unclear whether these actions were a direct result of the medication.

Warning

Side effects linked with the use of Mirapex include dizziness, headaches, constipation, mental/mood changes and, in some cases, falling asleep abruptly in the middle of everyday activities, with no forewarning of drowsiness.
