Make A Personalized Diaper Bag

A personalized diaper bag reflects your style and creativity.

A diaper bag is essential gear for parents, as it's designed to carry all of the needed things for quick access in caring for your child. It should be large enough to carry such items as a day's worth of diapers, at least two outfits for when the baby is soiled and other essentials like rash cream, baby powder, bottles, spare formula and things to entertain the child. Making your own personalized diaper bag gives you the ability to customize the size and its ability to accommodate all of your baby's items.

Instructions

1. Measure and cut two squares of fabric measuring 24-by-24 inches each. Thick, padded material is ideal for a diaper bag, and you can obtain quilted fabric of many textures and colors from craft and sewing supply stores.

2. Place one of the squares of fabric with the colored or printed side facing up. Squeeze a line of fabric glue along all but the top edge of the fabric. Choose a durable fabric glue that provides adhesion that is as strong as needle and thread stitching. Follow manufacturer's directions for fabric glue, some require setting with an iron.

3. Place the second square of fabric over the first with the colored or printed side facing down. Press the edges of the squares together firmly to adhere them. This creates a pouch-like structure with an opened top. Let it dry for 20 minutes.

4. Squeeze a thin line of fabric glue along the outside edge of the opened part of the bag. Do this all the way around the edge. Fold the edge over all the way around the opened part of the bag downward by 1/2 inch. Doing this creates a hem. Let it dry for 20 minutes.

5. Turn the pouch right side out, hiding the seams of the piece and making it look more bag-like. Cut a length of nylon strap from the roll measuring 20 inches long. A wide gauge strap of two to three inches is ideal for this task.

6. Squeeze a thick line of hot glue over one end of the nylon strap, covering the bottom inch of one side of it. Adhere it to the inside edge of the pouch at one side, one inch deep into the sack. Repeat this step with the other end of the strap, adhering it to the other side of the sack. This creates a comfortable shoulder strap for your diaper bag. Let it cool for five minutes.

7. Adhere one strip of Velcro along the inside edge of the sack, using fabric glue. Adhere the other strip of Velcro opposite the first on the other side of the pouch. This provides the bag with easy closure. Let the diaper bag dry for an hour before use.
