Cymbalta Emotional Side Effects

Cymbalta, otherwise known by its generic name of duloxetine, is a prescription medication commonly used to treat both anxiety and depression. Much like other medications on the market today, there are potential side effects from its use, even for those patients who need the drug. Some of these side effects can actually affect a person's emotional state and well being.

Nervousness

Some people taking Cymbalta have complained of an elevated nervousness or anxiety, even when this is the disorder they are currently being treated for.

Mood Swings

A person taking Cymbalta to treat either depression or anxiety may begin to experience swings in mood, which is essentially going from one extreme to the opposite.

Excitability

According to the Mayo Clinic, a person using Cymbalta to treat depression or anxiety may become more excitable than normal. Since this medication can increase a person's energy level, it may result in this particular symptom.

Irritability

Though rare, some people taking Cymbalta may begin to become rather irritable, and it may take very little to anger or frustrate them.

Suicidal Thoughts

Though also rare, a person taking Cymbalta may begin to experience suicidal thoughts.
