Find Medicare Information

Medicare is a federal government program that helps pay for prescriptions, home health aides, occupational therapy, physical therapy and associated nursing home stays, and other benefits. Here are some useful sources for information on Medicare benefits.

Instructions

1. Make a list of specific questions you have about Medicare. The list will give you keywords on which to search and help you decide which agency to contact for information.

2. Talk to your pharmacist, physician or insurance representative if your questions involve Medicare payment for medications or doctor visits.

3. Take your questions about Medicare benefits for nursing home charges to your local Area Agency on Aging. Area Agencies are found across the U.S. and are good sources of information on Medicare nursing home benefits.

4. Become a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and take advantage of their up-to-date information on changes in Medicare regulations and explanations of current regulations (see Resources below).

5. Consult Medicare's official website. This site contains detailed information on federal regulations and can be very technical. Most people will be better off trying the intermediate agencies listed above (see Resources below).
