Dissolve Superglue

Super Glue can be used to bond a range of materials.

Super Glue was first discovered in 1942 and introduced as a commercial product in 1958. Its ability to bond materials as diverse as ceramics, metal and rubber can make it very useful in the home. Super Glue can even bond skin to skin and was used to seal wounds during the Vietnam War. Once Super Glue sets, it forms a strong bond. If you accidentally Super Glue two items together, including your own fingers, you can dissolve the glue using a combination of soapy water and a chemical called acetone, which is prevalent in most nail polish removers.

Instructions

1. Soak bonded areas in soapy water if possible. If you are using materials such as wood that are likely to be damaged by immersion in water, skip this step.

2. You can buy nail polish remover at a regular pharmacy.

Apply a small amount of nail polish remover to a cotton swab.

3. Soften the Super Glue using the nail polish remover on the cotton swab.

4. Rub off any excess Super Glue with the cotton swab.

5. Brush away any deep-set Super Glue using a toothbrush soaked in nail polish remover. You may need to do this if the Super Glue has hardened on fabric.
