Recover A Fingerprint With Super Glue

No two sets of fingerprints are alike

Police all over the world use Superglue fuming to recover latent fingerprints, according to a web article. "Cyanoacrylate (Superglue) Fuming Tips," by forensic scientist Ed German. Latent fingerprints are those hard to see or fingerprints left behind at a crime scene. If performed correctly, says German, Superglue fuming is safe. You don't need technologically advanced forensic equipment to create your fingerprint recovery device. You can find the components for one in your own home.

Instructions

1. Shape a 2 feet by 2 feet piece of aluminum foil into the shape of a bowl with a flat bottom and straight sides and about 5 inches in diameter.

2. Place your cardboard box with the opening ends at top and bottom. Select the smallest box that your 'evidence' will fit into. Fold out the top flaps so you can work inside the box. Make sure that bottom flaps are folded together and secure; tape the bottom shut for the best results.

3. Cut a hole in one of the box's bottom corners large enough for the cup warmer plug. Put the coffee cup warmer into the box and feed the plug through the hole. Plug the coffee cup warmer into an outlet.

4. Add hot water to your coffee cup and place it inside the box. Do not place it on the coffee cup warmer.

5. Tear a small square piece of foil from your roll. Rub your thumb on your forehead and then press your thumb to your foil square. This is your control print. Place it inside the box.

6. Squirt a nickel-sized dollop of Superglue onto the center of your foil astray. Place the foil ashtray into the box. Switch on the coffee cup warmer.

7. Close the box's top flaps. Wait at least 10 minutes before opening the box to check on the progress. If your test print turns white, you've complete the process. If it hasn't, wait another 10 minutes.
