Athome Cellulite Treatment

At-Home Cellulite Treatment

An accumulation of fat beneath the skin is referred to as cellulite, which looks like skin dimples. Cellulite can gradually develop on different areas of the body such as the thighs, buttocks, stomach and arms. There are many ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite. While some people spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on expensive cosmetic treatments, there are at-home remedies you can use to smooth the skin and get rid of cellulite dimples.

Lose Weight

Because cellulite results from fat, losing body fat can reduce the appearance or get rid of skin dimples. Carefully assess your eating habits. To lose fat, eliminate fatty and fried foods from your diet. Pay attention to food labels, and select foods with a low-fat content. Additionally, increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, and reduce your intake of refined sugars (ice cream, sodas, cookies and candy). Limit your carbohydrate intake to 130 grams a day, and eat smaller food portions.

Increase Muscle Mass

In conjunction with altering your eating habits and dropping body fat, toning exercises are an effective at-home remedy for cellulite. Toning exercises strengthen and build muscle mass, which can reduce cellulite in the arms, stomach, thighs and buttocks. To tighten the stomach, engage in core workouts such as Pilates or crunches. Weightlifting can strengthen and tone the arms, whereas leg lifts and squats tone and firm the buttocks and thighs.

Reduce Fluid Retention

Oftentimes, sudden cellulite results from water weight or fluid retention. Several factors contribute to water weight, such as prescription medications or a high-sodium diet. To stop fluid retention, and ultimately get rid of cellulite, drink plenty of water or take a diuretic to flush fluids from your body. Talk to your doctor about altering your medications or tapering the dosage, which can reverse fluid retention. Also, reduce your sodium intake and avoid processed foods.

Cardio Exercises

Exercise can improve your overall health and reduce cellulite. Cardiovascular workouts such as aerobics, jogging, walking or biking increase blood circulation and reduce fluid retention --- which are proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite. If possible, engage in cardio workouts for 30 to 60 minutes three to five times a week.

Lotions and Creams

Certain lotions and creams include active ingredients such as olive oil, vitamin E, collagen and L-carnitine that firm or tighten skin and affect the metabolism of fat. These products can reduce and prevent cellulite. Every day, massage your skin with these creams and lotions to improve your appearance.
