Sell Power Chairs

There may come a time when you or a loved one will need a power chair for a set amount of time in order to get around. Once the person using the chair is finished with it, though, there is no reason to hold onto the power chair. Selling the power chair can give you some spending money or even help you to pay off the chair. Selling these chairs is easier than you may believe, as there are constantly people who need them.

Instructions

1. Begin by contacting the company that sold you the power chair. Many of these places actually have a "buy back" policy where the company will buy the power chair back from you at a discounted price. This depends on a few factors, including how long you used the chair and the overall condition of the chair. Using this method is best if you want a hassle-free sale and are simply looking to get rid of the power chair.

2. Call or email local hospitals as well as physical therapy and rehabilitation centers. These places are often looking to purchase gently used power chairs to be used at their facilities. Many smaller therapy and rehab centers will even act as a third party, contacting you when there is a potential buyer. They may also allow you to post a flier or bulletin regarding the sale of your power chair in their lobby.

3. Place an advertisement in the local newspaper or on craigslist.org (see Resources below). This allow you to sell directly to a person who is in need of a power chair. The two of you can determine the price for the chair as well as how the chair will be delivered or picked up.

4. Get an offer for your power chair from Used Wheelchairs USA. Used Wheelchairs USA buys used wheelchairs and power chairs from all around the country. They will pay up to 10 percent of the list price (but no more than $1,400) for your power chair. You do have to pay the delivery fee to their site in Virginia. Fill out on the sale form on the website to begin the process of selling your chair to Used Wheelchairs USA (see Resources below). To learn more, contact the company at (800) 899-0322.

5. Use Med Marketplace to sell your power chair. Med Marketplace will allow you to advertise your power chair on their website for less than $5 a month. What makes that $5 worth your money is that the Med Marketplace website receives requests from hospitals, nursing homes and other companies for items such as used power chairs. Call (888) 502-2800 to learn more about selling your power chair on Med Marketplace (see Resources below).

6. Sell your power chair on eBay. It may seem too obvious but there are well over 100 power chairs listed on the website on a daily basis. Selling your power chair on eBay allows you to set the minimum price as well as any and all delivery fees. Doing so also lets potential buyers contact you directly.
