Breast implants often appear high after an augmentation surgery because they have not yet settled into the newly-created breast fold. Your breast implants need to "drop" before you can judge the final results of your surgery.
When Do Breast Implants Drop?
Most women find their breast implants start dropping within two to three weeks after breast augmentation surgery. If your breast implants have not dropped six months after surgery, you should consult with your cosmetic surgeon. It is possible you will need a remedial surgery.
Types of Surgery
Implants placed under the muscle take longer to drop than implants inserted over the muscle.
Your Original Breast Size
If you had smaller breasts before breast augmentation surgery, your implants may take more time to reach their final position. This is because your skin needs to stretch before the implants can drop fully.
Uneven Dropping
It is normal for one breast implant to drop faster than the other. If they do not even out after several months, however, you should see your doctor.
Encouraging Your Breast Implants to Drop
Your surgeon may recommend massage or gentle pushing on the implants to encourage them into the right position. Breast massage can also prevent internal scarring and other complications after surgery.
