Become A Certified Holistic Health Practitioner

Learn the use of herbs for natural remedies as a holistic health practitioner.

Holistic healing encompasses a complete lifestyle assessment and all-natural treatments and remedies that serve the emotional, spiritual as well as physical well-being to achieve optimum overall wellness. There are a number of specialities within holistic health. To become a certified holistic health practitioner you may take part in a general holistic health certificate program at a holistic health school where you will be trained on the human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, spiritual healing, therapeutic massage and relaxation techniques as well as become informed on natural and herbal remedies; or you may obtain training on a specialty area within the holistic field.

Instructions

1. Explore the various specialty areas within the holistic health practice to narrow your focus for choosing an institution for training and certification. A general holistic health certification program will cover a number of areas within holistic health preparing you for certification and practice. However, some specialty areas include Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda practices and spiritual healing techniques such as Reiki that are not taught at every holistic health institution. Choose a holistic health school that specializes in your area of interest.

2. Attend a holistic health certificate or degree program of your choice. Holistic health programs are offered in 50 states and the District of Columbia. It would be beneficial to receive your training in the state you plan to practice to ensure you are receiving the proper education to successfully go through the certification process for your state. Some areas of holistic health may only require certiification; others may require a bachelors or masters degree.

3. Obtain state certification for the area of holistic health you have chosen to practice in. The process of obtaining state certification will depend on your specialty area. For example, if you have obtained a certificate in massage therapy, you will need to pursue a massage therapist license from your state. If you plan to become specialized in nutrition, you will have had to complete a nutrition degree program and become licensed as a nutritionist in your state. Your specialized certification from your state will qualify you to begin practicing in your area of interest within holistic health.

4. Apply for certification with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners by sending in an application with your transcripts, credentials and a fee. By doing so you will become nationally recognized as a holistic health practitioner and become eligible to receive patient referrals and be informed on build and improve your practice. The application can be downloaded from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners website.
