Give hand soap bottles a second life.
Once you've pumped the last bit of soap from the hand soap bottle, it's far from worthless. Rather than checking to see if they're eligible for recycling, find a use or two for used hand soap bottles within your home and possibly add some convenience to your life.
Dog Shampoo Dispenser
Rather than risk pouring or squeezing out too much shampoo onto your canine companion's wet back and ending up with a sudsy mess, reuse an old hand soap bottle as a handy dog shampoo dispenser. The pump-style attachment makes it easier to control the amount you need. Fill it the bottle with dog shampoo and keep next to your pet supplies so you can find it when you need it. Write "Dog Shampoo" on the bottle with a permanent marker so there won't be any confusion.
Homemade Packaging
If you're into making your own homemade liquid hand soaps, wash out old hand soap bottles and refill them with your concoction. Save your old hand soap bottles throughout the year and make holiday gifts for friends and family. Fill the bottles with fragrant homemade liquid soaps and make new stick-on labels for the bottles with the new soap's name.
Dishwashing Liquid Convenience
Buying a super-sized bottle of dish washing liquid may seem like a great cost saver, but when you get home and realize how cumbersome the large bottle is, you may be wishing you'd gone for convenience. Fill an old hand soap bottle with a quantity of dish washing liquid and you'll have an instantly convenient dispenser that you can keep nearby the sink for washing dishes.
Hand Lotion Dispenser
Dry hands run rampant, especially in cooler weather or for people who find themselves constantly washing their hands. Offer a nice touch by your bathroom sink with a dispenser filled with your favorite hand lotion. Yet, instead of buying a dispenser, reuse an old hand soap container. Buy a large quantity of moisturizing lotion and refill the hand soap bottle as needed.
Tips
If you want to make your own stick-on labels for the bottles, soak the old labels in hot soapy water for at least 30 minutes. Scrub them away with a nylon scrubbing sponge. They should come off without much effort. Always label old hand soap bottles with the name of what you filled them with so there's no confusion.
